Pandemia, Automatización y Educación – Pandemic, Automation and Education

La pandemia de COVID-19 ha detenido la actividad económica a nivel mundial.

Si bien existe una gran demanda de entregas a los hogares de productos terminados, existe un gran temor a la contaminación de los productos debido a la incertidumbre de no saber cómo se fabricó o si la persona que tocó el producto tuvo algún síntoma de COVID-19 o si esa persona llevaba puesto el equipo de protección personal adecuado.

Por otro lado, las fábricas y depósitos se ven obligados a cerrar para proteger a sus empleados, mientras que aquellos que son esenciales luchan para prevenir brotes. Entonces ¿Cómo es posible igualar la demanda y la oferta?

La clave es la automatización industrial, hace un par de años en Alemania creció un buen concepto de marketing sofisticado de Industria 4.0, un concepto para impulsar las ventas de automatización industrial, conectividad y datos en tiempo real que al final es lo que se necesita para igualar demanda y oferta mientras los científicos encuentran una vacuna para este virus.

Antes de que llegara la crisis, los titulares alarmistas predecían la pérdida masiva de empleos debido a la automatización. Ahora que estamos en medio de una pérdida masiva de trabajo (más de 6 millones solo en los EE. UU.), que no ha sido causada por la automatización, la pregunta ahora es «¿Cómo puede la automatización acelerar nuestra recuperación y protegernos de futuras pandemias?»

Desde mi punto de vista, la automatización industrial y de procesos, así como la Inteligencia Artificial harán el trabajo pesado para aumentar la producción, reducir el tiempo y los costos, pero millones de personas seguirán desempleadas y aquí es donde la educación es la clave para mejorar las habilidades de los trabajadores.

Todavía no vimos cómo afectará esta pandemia a largo plazo, pero es seguro apostar por la educación, ya que nuestros ingenieros científicos, enfermeras y médicos, maestros solo por mencionar algunos, son los que impulsan el sistema, no los jugadores de fútbol, ​​no los youtubers ni los influencers. Enseñemos a nuestros hijos programación, automatización y habilidades avanzadas, ahí estará la clave en mantener a los trabajadores humanos y a los consumidores más seguros.

The COVID-19 pandemic has halted economic activity globally.

While there is a huge demand for deliveries to homes of finished products, there is a huge fear for contamination of the goods due to the uncertainty of how it was manufactured or if the person who touched the product had any symptom of COVID-19 or if that person was wearing the appropriate personal protection equipment.

On the other side factories and warehouses are forced to shut down to protect their workers, while those that are essential struggle with preventing outbreaks. So, how is it possible then to match demand and offer?

The key is the industrial automation, a couple of years ago in Germany grew a fancy concept of Industry 4.0, a nice marketing concept to push sales of industrial automation, connectivity and real time data that in the end it is what it takes to match actual demand and offer meanwhile the scientist find a vaccine for this virus.

Before the crisis hit, alarmist headlines ere predicting massive job loss due to automation. Now that we are in the midst of massive job loss (6MM+ only in the US), that hasn’t been caused by automation, the question is now “How can automation accelerate our recovery and protect us from future pandemics?”

From my point of view, Industrial and process automation as well as Artificial Intelligence will do the heavy lifting to increase production, reduce time and cost, but millions of people will still be unemployed and here is where education is the key to upgrade workers skills.

We did not see yet how this pandemic will affect in the long run, but is safe to bet on education since our scientist engineers, nurses & doctors, teachers just to mention some, are the ones pushing the system not the soccer players, not the youtubers nor the influencers. Let’s teach our kids programming, automation and advanced skills where it keeps human workers, and consumers, safer.
